Publications
When I was still deep into IT I wrote two books and published them with Springer Verlag. Later on, I
contributed to a book on a more higher and conceptual level that dealt with the early stages of the e-
business hype. None are available on the market any more but can be found online. In 2003 I
published an article on electronic HR which is available online as well.
OS/2 Version 2
My first book, written in 1992 when the new version 2.0 of IBM's amazing
operating system for PCs came out - the version that IBM finally chose to
(more or less) actively market to the end consumer. Too bad it never
really took off the ground. It was (and is) a great - if not the greatest -
operating system for PCs (besides Linux, of course).
The book is no longer on the market. Should you die to receive a copy,
though, feel free to contact me. 184 pages, 65 exhibits, German.
Chapter 5 describes the system architecture of OS/2 and is available on-
line as PDF:
Communication and Networks
The book was originally written in 1994 and describes anything related to
computer networks, like protocols, standards, technologies and on-line
work as well as computer communication like definition languages and
distributed working. It is being rated highly in the internet community for
its clear and thorough explanation and the selection of content.
Even though written a while ago, it's still mostly up-to-date (OK, some
technologies like NT or Linux are missing. But that's it.). 324 pages, 88
exhibits, German.
The book is sold out, but an updated version from 1997 is available on-
line:
The e-business Principle
In this book, I co-authored a section on knowledge management while
consulting for IBM in Zurich. We wrote the book in 2000 during the times
of the e-business hype when everyone was thinking of going online
(including our fish-selling Ramon). Now, that the internet bubble has
burst someone selling fish may be thinking of doing so on the internet.
The major principles depicted in the book still hold, though.
274 pages, available in German, English and Russian.
The chapter on Knowledge Management is available online:
eHR - Electronic Human Resources
Electronically supported HR Management is an article on Modern Human Resource Management and electronic HR
from 2003. It points out what has changed in the last years for HR and how information technology can be used to
help HR concentrate more on value-adding activities.
It was published a while ago. But the principles still hold true.
This article is available in German here.
